What do you get when La Petite Grocery's Justin Devillier, Three Muses' Dan Esses, Patois' Aaron Burgau, Crescent Pie & Sausage's Bart Bell, and Boucherie's Nathaniel Zimet decide to form a barbecue team with NOPD capt Billy Ceravolo? Hogs for the Cause 2013's Grand Champions of pork, that's what. The chefypants dreamteam, Stand up and Snout, beat out over 80 teams for the title, and also took home first place in the Ribs category, and second in Shoulder. |
"We had a great time. We were all happy with what we put out. We had no idea we were going to win or anything. All that matter is we had a good time. Then we won it, and were even more happy about that." -- Chef AARON BURGAU of Patois, on the Stand Up and Snout team with Bell, which won first place in ribs, second in shoulder/butt, and overall Grand Champion. |
Even with the threat of rain, this year’s Hogs for the Cause showed a large turnout. The cook-off has a philanthropic purpose: raising money for pediatric brain cancer care. The different teams ranged from professional chefs to groups of friends looking for an excuse to drink and camp out on a Friday night in City Pork. |
